On its new SMT line with SIPLACE D2 and SIPLACE D1 machines, the company manufactures not only modules for its traditional EMS business, but sophisticated LED modules with complex controllers for vehicle lighting systems or the touchless controllable surgical lights which Asetronics has developed in-house.

Together with its new hardware, the company also invested in options from the SIPLACE software suite to make central manufacturing processes such as new product introductions, set-ups and offline set-up stations faster, more reliable and more efficient. This enables the Swiss electronics manufacturer to meet the traceability requirements of its customers in the medical and automotive fields.

Asetronics picked SIPLACE solutions because of the capabilities of the SIPLACE software, the high process reliability with respect to LEDs and super-small 0201 and 01005 components, and the competent support provided by Swiss SIPLACE sales representative Hilpert Electronics AG.

Swiss original design manufacturer Asetronics AG wants to manage its rapidly rising order volume with a production line consisting of a SIPLACE D2 and a SIPLACE D1. The company, which started in 2004 as a spin-off from telecom conglomerate Ascom, has established itself as one of Europe's leading producers of high-quality LED modules for the medical and automotive industries with special heat-conducting MF circuit boards and in-house developments.

“We believe that SIPLACE offers by far the best LED handling of all equipment manufacturers,” says Asetronics CEO André Maurer. “SIPLACE supports the differentiation by LED lighting classes and offers a large spectrum of special nozzles for picking up and placing the highly sensitive LED components without scratching their surfaces.”

Asetronics also decided to upgrade its SIPLACE D2, which is certified for 0201 components by default, with an option for 01005 components. This enables the company to manufacture even the latest, extremely miniaturised modules for medical technology applications in a cost-effective manner.

In addition to upgrading its capacity with the SIPLACE D line, Asetronics also wanted to increase its production efficiency. It achieved this by improving its offline set-up, set-up verification and new product introduction (NPI) processes. Supported by SIPLACE software solutions such as SIPLACE Pro and SIPLACE Set-up Centre along with set-up optimisation options and SIPLACE splice sensors, these central SMT production processes are now much faster and more stable, with the corresponding impact on the company's production quality and costs.

“With its expertise in multifunction PCBs and its leading position in LED placement, Asetronics places special demands on its SMT manufacturing hardware and software. The newly installed SIPLACE D line and the SIPLACE software suite support these special placement processes efficiently and further improve our process reliability, which enables us to meet our customers’ steadily rising requirements," says Erich Harlacher, Sales Manager at SIPLACE partner Hilpert Electronics.
