Confidence growing at APEX

22 March 2010

Celebrating its tenth anniversary, APEX is once more upon us. Hopefully it will reflect the growing optimism in the electronics manufacturing community.

I remember the first APEX ten years ago. The market was still in its un-restrained build up to what was to become the most dramatic crash in our industry’s history (present crisis included), and the IPC had tapped into the exhibitors dissatisfaction with Nepcon West, the incumbent industry event, to put on a show for the industry, run by the industry. Somebody described the evening entertainment as decadent enough to make Caligula blush. The whole event was something that all involved felt justifiably proud of.

In terms of visitor numbers it has never matched those reached by Nepcon West, but then APEX has had a far tighter focus and has had to operate in a more mature market, both in terms of technology and its global footprint. Size has never been as important as providing the right event for the right audience. This year’s event takes place at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Convention Center in Las Vegas on 6-8 April and is hoped to build on the returning optimism within industry.

Mary Mac Kinnon, IPC Director of Trade Show Sales, takes up the story: “For a decade, our attendees and exhibitors have recognised that this event helps them achieve their goals. With the industry’s premier technical conference and critical standards development meetings, along with the fact that the event repeatedly attracts a qualified international audience of industry executives in PCB manufacturing and electronics assembly worldwide, there really is no other event like IPC APEX EXPO in the world.”

This week, all news and product articles on EMTWorldWide are relevant to APEX. There is a wealth of further information on the APEX web site, but hopefully you will find our contents this week tasty enough to entice you to Las Vegas next month for the main course!
