The future now

15 October 2007

Continuing our look at companies who intend to make a splash at Productronica, DEK turns the focus on applications based solutions..

As electronic products grow increasingly complex, the pressure is on manufacturers to not only meet current process requirements, but also to accommodate next generation requirements before they arrive. Product complexity, and indeed production complexity, has led to a growing focus on the applications driving this advance. This sense of the future now provides an ideal backdrop for the DEK display on Stand A4.305 at this year’s Productronica exhibition, being held in Munich from November 13th – 16th.

According to DEK’s European Product Manager, Simon Clasper, applied next generation expertise will be a major feature of the mass imaging leader’s Productronica stand: “In line with our ‘Expect More’ philosophy, we’re constantly looking at ways to help customers improve product performance for consistently better results. This commitment frequently leads to process advances, fuelling next generation applications with the power to revolutionise productivity and throughput.”

Europa RTC represents one such process advance being showcased live by the DEK team. Addressing the need for speed, Europa RTC is ideal for manufacturers looking to keep pace with the demands of high volumes and miniaturisation. Combining the powerful printer frame of Europa with RTC (Rapid Transit Conveyor) high speed board transport technology, Europa RTC delivers industry leading cycle times of just four seconds. Representing a break from conventional board transport technologies, RTC enables manufacturers to simply and cost-effectively accelerate board transport to a high steady-state speed. Using stepper motor technology and high speed servo motor transport to drive an active board snugging mechanism, RTC automatically adjusts to each substrate. In practice, when combined with the advanced credentials of Europa, this equates to an unbeatable throughput advantage.

Alongside the Europa RTC display, the DEK team will also be demonstrating its proven Galaxy platform. Encapsulating the industry’s increasing focus on process flexibility, Galaxy redefines the upper performance limits for high accuracy mass imaging. As the ideal platform for advanced semiconductor packaging and high precision SMT convergence, Galaxy is engineered to handle advanced packaging challenges including wafer-level CSPs, flip-chip, uBGA and ultra-fine pitch SMT. Taking application flexibility even further, this display will also highlight a range of key DEK Productivity Tools. Designed to extend the value and capability of even the very best technologies, it will feature next generation technologies from HD Grid-Lok high density tooling support to the ProFlow enclosed print head for repeatable aperture filling and lower paste wastage.

And finally, since no Productronica would be complete without a product launch, this year’s show will see the DEK team unveil the next generation Instinctiv platform. Featuring an innovative new software architecture and a significantly faster user interface performance, the Instinctiv update delivers a stable and reliable platform for further functionality development.

With all this and more on show at Stand 305, Productronica visitors should leave the DEK display with their eyes firmly fixed on the future. Simon concludes, “As the industry turns its attention towards technologies with the potential to simultaneously drive sophisticated applications and ongoing productivity, DEK is committed to delivering the products and expertise necessary to help our customers expect more.”
