Gearing up for the global gathering

12 October 2007

This issue of EMTWorldWide is a special one for us as, for the first time since our launch, we have dedicated it to a single event. That event is Productronica, and we have worked closely with the organisers to bring you all the latest information about next month's show, including practical visitor information as well technological highlights!

It’s never easy to claim the number one position in any form of business, but Productronica, Munich’s biennial trade fair for the electronics production industry, has considerable justification to do so. There simply is no other comparable trade fair in this sector of electronics. From 13-16 November this year, visitors to Munich’s magnificent halls will see over 1500 companies from 40 countries, who between them cover absolutely every element of the industry, with separate halls for semiconductor manufacture, material processing , testing and measurement, soldering, nano-technology , cabling, coilware and so on; you want it – Productronica has got it!

The plan of the show outlines where you can find what – and www.productronica.com gives you details of all the exhibitors. Visitors should register now on this website, thus also entering their names for the draw for a chance to win the new Apple iPhone.

New to Productronica this year is a section devoted to the production technology required for the manufacture of solar energy systems. Suppliers of photovoltaic know-how will include ASYS, Newport Spectra-Physics, Hilpert and Schlenk. Forums, which take place within the halls and are free to all visitors – will be devoted to photovoltaic manufacturing as well as to many other topical subjects, including “The future of system integration”, “Manufacturing for organic electronics”, and “Flat-panel display manufacturing”.

Highlights this year also include the EMS Village – a discussion platform for leading representatives of electronics manufacturing services – a section for production logistics with particular reference to traceability using RFID systems; and, of course, special attention will be focused on green electronics; here, solutions involving the use of new materials will be discussed. The safe and environmentally appropriate disposal of materials is a hot topic in Germany (which pays perhaps more attention than other countries to EU directives!), including the bans on phosphorous compounds and PVC; this too will feature large among the Forum subjects.

The organisers of Munich’s trade fairs strive to make their events replicate and to some extent anticipate the developments in the industries they portray; their Advisory Committee, formed of representatives from all parts of the global electronics industry, provide a sounding-board for those actually running and promoting Productronica, with the goal of ensuring that the show remains relevant, instructive and forward-looking.
